Varieties of Lingerie and How to Make Them Work for You

Lingerie Types to Suit Your Body

For some newcomers to the land of lingerie, all of the vernacular can seem a little confusing. What's a teddy (not a bear)? What about a babydoll? It seems like a children's toy box, doesn't it? Never fret though, we're here to help. Below is a guide to each of the different cuts of lingerie, and which body types fit those cuts the best. Soon, you'll be able to go into a lingerie store with confidence, knowing exactly what you want, and what it's called.

Teddy

The teddy is essentially a one piece lingerie outfit, that's a little like a very racy bathing suit. These are usually made of lace or mesh, and are see-through for the most part. If you have great legs and want to show them off, the teddy is an excellent choice for you. Because the teddy is a one piece it also works well for women who want to hide a bit of pooch in the belly area.

Chemise

The chemise is basically a nightgown, except vamped up to sensual lingerie standards. Look for sheer fabrics in racier numbers, and cuts that end halfway down your behind. Many chemises also hook on to stocking via garters for an even sexier look. If you want to go with a bit softer look there are also beautiful chemises in silks and satin that are longer and more romantic.

Babydoll

This piece of lingerie is sort of like a chemise, except it flutters open below the breasts. This cut is great for women with whittled stomachs, but who maybe want to balance out larger hips.

Corsets

The corset was once a functional undergarment, now it's a great piece of sensual lingerie. For an in-control and dominating look, a black corset matched with black stockings via garter straps has no rival. Corsets are great for women who want to cinch their middles in and push the girls up.

Of course, you can always create a lingerie look using a simple bra and panty combo. But for those times when you really need to make a big impression, the above styles will help you and more. You're stocked with knowledge now, so what are you waiting for?
