Vinyl Lingerie vs Leather Lingerie

Leather vs Vinyl Lingerie - Alternatives to Leather Lingerie

Leather lingerie is dead sexy – no doubt. But its impact on your pocketbook sometimes makes it out of your league. Don’t despair! Get the look of leather at a fraction of the cost with vinyl lingerie.

Lingerie made from vinyl has the same glossy and thick look that leather is known for. Vinyl can come in some smashingly good colors. Think gold, bright red, hot pink, deep blue – the sky’s the limit. Vinyl generally has more of a shiny look than leather, but it is often appreciated for its lustrous appearance.

Disadvantages of Vinyl

Because vinyl is so affordable in terms of lingerie, it is definitely a good option to consider. However, be aware that vinyl has certain disadvantages compared to leather. Vinyl does not breathe well, which means that when worn for extended periods of time, sweat can build up under the lingerie. It is hotter than leather, due in part to its lack of breathing as well as the nature of the material. Some varieties come with a cloth lining for increased comfort.

Now the good news is that lingerie, whether vinyl or otherwise, is usually worn for fairly short periods of time before it is taken off. So although its lack of breathability is a drawback, the lingerie will probably be taken off before it has a chance to reach the point of discomfort. But it will likely be thoroughly enjoyed during its brief stay on the body!

If you are looking for a piece of sexy lingerie that you can wear under clothing, vinyl is not such a good choice because of the problems mentioned above. Leather is supple and breathes enough to consider as a possibility under clothing. Leather bras, for example, can be worn under clothing at an evening event, so that you are ready for the night later to come.

Care of Vinyl vs Leather Lingerie

Properly maintaining leather lingerie takes more work than vinyl.  Leather should be conditioned and treated periodically to maintain its color and surface. Professional cleaning may be necessary with leather. Vinyl based lingerie can be simply hand washed with soap and water. Drying the surface while it is wet can help reduce water spots and streaking.

Scratches in vinyl clothing and lingerie are not fixable. Care must be taken to avoid sharp or abrasive objects.
