Sensual Fabrics for Lingerie

When one thinks of lingerie gorgeous silks and satins that fire our minds with pleasure immediately come to mind. But why are these fabrics great for lingerie, and where do they come from? For those of you interested in what your lingerie is made of, read on, we may just have the answers that you are looking for.

Lace

Lace is the resulting of tying, knitting, or crocheting extremely fine tread to create a complex fabric that shows beautiful patterns. Because lace is full of holes it is also very delicate, if any of the threads gets snagged you could have a gaping hole in mere seconds. It is the drape, sheerness, and vulnerability of lace that makes it so attractive for lingerie makers. You can make a sensual long chemise that is entirely see-through. It's also thrilling to know such delicate fabric can be ripped off the body as well.

Satin

Satin is actually called such because of the weaving process used to make the fabric, not because of the type of material it's made of. Satin can actually be made of silk or polyester, the latter being the cheaper option. In a satin weave long threads are left to float on top, creating the shiny and silky topside and matte underside. Satin is great in lingerie because it flows and drapes, and the feeling is incredibly slick and silky.

Leather

Leather, or in many cases faux-leather, can be a great addition to unusual lingerie. The real product comes from animal skins, but the faux leather is made from polyesters. If you want a gothic, vamp, or dominatrix vibe to your lingerie, then these fabrics can really help you get into character. Leather is great for lingerie corsets because it's stiff and provides the necessary support a corset must give.

Now that you know what goes into the making of your lingerie, you can make better informed choices about what you wear. Have fun picking out your next ensemble!
