Low Riding Panties: Just How Low Will You Really Go?

Low-riding underwear facts, front and center

Ultra low panties really are old news.  This past decade, the lingerie world was rocked in a big way when endless collections of hip-slung denim hit the chicest boutiques.  Soon this style received mass appeal, creeping into department stores sporting a lower than 10” rise.  While some label’s slogans nudged to “let it show”, a large number of civilians started turning to the solace of hipster thongs and boy-cut briefs.

So, how low is too low?  Female consumers’ opinions still are divided over whether these trends are simply just a cotton-and-spandex blended race to the crack. Companies bringing back relaxed waistlines (or vintage, high-waist pants) seek to alleviate the conservative woman’s fear that the terms “low rise” and “ultra low” will forever rule fashion runways.  Still, plenty of the biggest names infiltrate shelves with lower-than-life designs that have been embraced by more than a few style divas.  Fact is, hip-hanging underthings CAN be more forgiving and comfortable than their traditional counterparts; non-restricting styles prevent a bulging-waistline look, while giving an illusion of longer length to the torso.

Surprisingly, low-riders work for nearly all body types.  A few tricks, straight from the hip:  thick-sided thongs or  briefs allow for a smooth silhouette, i.e. no hip-squeezing.  Up the comfort ante by choosing lightweight lace and cotton blends, which are always cooler. The unmentionables speak for themselves when it comes to daring prints and sexy patterns.  Wear it low, even let it show and work your look, style divas.
