Open Shelf Bras

Why You Need an Open Shelf Bra

If you’ve ever been browsing in a lingerie store looking for a new bra and unexpectedly came across an open shelf bra, your first reaction might be incredulous. I mean who really wears these things? Shouldn’t they be over in the fantasy lingerie section and not tucked away in here with the everyday bras? But before you pass by the charms of the open bra so quickly, perhaps you should take a few minutes to learn why shelf bras are a great addition to any bra collection.

Simply put, open bras or shelf bras are bras that only have material on the bottom half of the cup. The top half of the bra is left completely open. This bra works to give support and raise the bust line. While you may think that the open bra is only for fantasy lingerie wear, there are some very practical uses of the shelf bra.

Shelf Bras are great for dresses or shirts with plunging necklines. With most bras, a plunging neckline would result in your bra being open to the world for perusal. But with an open bra, the only thing that other people see is your greatly enhanced bosom.

Another great use for the shelf bra is to wear it with strapless gowns. Many strapless gowns come with their own built-in bra support, but often, this support is not quite enough to get you through the night. Not only will a shelf bra give you much needed support, but it will also lift up your assets to fill out the dress the way it was intended.

As you can see, there are many practical reasons to buy a shelf bra. So, the next time you are speculating just how someone could use one of these things, think about how sexy that new shirt would be if you could let loose a button or two without revealing your bra.
